These next episodes are a little different. They are short episodes, just with me (no guests this time!) and they will be the final two episodes of the Fertile Mindset Podcast. The podcast will still be here, and you’ll be able to listen back to the whole library of 94 episodes but these are the final two to be released, and during these episodes I’m going to be explaining why I’ve come to this decision.

I begin here with the three core values of Fertile Mindset – clarity, purpose and joy – why clarity is so important, the surprising outcome that can arise when we pursue clarity for ourselves, and how this can be unsettling.

It’s been a month since I last released an episode, and not only is this episode a very special one that I’ve been looking forward to sharing with you for a while – it’s also my last guest episode on the podcast. There will be a couple more episodes released, where I’m going to share some updates and my plans for the future of Fertile Mindset, because my life and my work are going through some quite significant changes, hence why I haven’t been so present on the podcast or on social media recently. This episode is with someone I’ve known for around 10 years. She first came to me as a client for support on her fertility journey, and has taken a path through life that is nothing short of remarkable, becoming a best selling children’s author with her first book soon to be turned into a movie. Let me introduce you to Hannah Gold.

Hannah grew up in a family where books, animals, and the beauty of the outside world were ever present, and is now passionate about writing children’s stories that share her love of the planet. Her debut, The Last Bear, was a Sunday Times bestseller and won a number of national and international awards, including the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize and the Blue Peter Book Award in 2022. She is also the author of The Lost Whale, Finding Bear and the recently released Turtle Moon which was another instant best seller.

Hannah’s books have sold over 250,000 copies in the UK alone, and been translated into 27 languages around the world. She is an ambassador for Whale and Dolphin Conservation, and lives in Lincolnshire with her tortoise and her husband.

I loved this conversation with Hannah because we talked in depth about how her fertility journey led to her author journey, and the depth of her writing that has been enhanced by her life experiences including infertility. EP 091: Vanlife, Freedom, and Life on Her Terms with Jo Hodson

Today’s guest is Jo Hodson, who lives in a van that she designed herself, while travelling and working wherever she chooses. It was so inspiring to hear her speak about how she lives her life completely on her terms.

Before Jo embarked on full-time van life she lived in the next town to me and we have several mutual friends. When I heard she had converted a Ford Transit van and this was now her home I was intrigued and started following her journey on Instagram. I quickly became hooked and I love to check her daily stories where she shares the highs and lows of van life, as well as breathtaking photos of the gorgeous places she travels to and calls home for a while.

This conversation with Jo was raw and authentic and shows us another way to live that isn’t conventional but may well just feel ‘right’ for some. I hope you enjoy listening, and that Jo inspires you to live your life with more clarity and authenticity – whether that’s in a van or not!

EP 089: The Healing Process of Adventure Activism and Writing Books with Jessica Hepburn

I have known Jessica for many years, since working with her at her fertility arts event, Fertility Fest. Since then Jessica’s life has taken many twists and turns, through losses and heartache, and she has both adventured and written her way through. Jessica’s three books are all favourites of mine, and I was inspired to invite her on to the podcast after attending the launch of her newest book – her best yet – Save Me From the Waves.

Jessica Hepburn is an award-winning author, arts producer and adventure activist who has become one of the UK’s leading voices on fertility and family as well as a pioneer in inspiring people to live big and bravely when life doesn’t go to plan, and championing the benefits of going on adventures to improve your physical and mental health. Formerly Executive Director of the Lyric Hammersmith – one of London’s leading theatres – Jessica led from inception to completion the theatre’s £20m capital redevelopment and was nominated as ‘Theatre Manager of the Year’. Whilst doing this, she was also trying to become a mother and went through eleven rounds of IVF at a range of UK fertility clinics which resulted in multiple miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy that almost took her life. She turned to exercise and adventure to heal her heartbreak and in 2022, she became the first woman in the world to achieve ‘The Sea, Street, Summit Challenge’ – which was swimming the English Channel, running the London Marathon and summiting Mount Everest.

Jessica has been nominated as one of Amnesty International’s ‘Women of Suffragette Spirit’; and a ‘Woman to Watch’ in 2024 by Woman & Home Magazine.

I loved having this conversation with Rosie after we first met at one of her nature-focused day retreats. The retreat was a birthday present from my husband, and I wasn’t sure what to expect, but as soon as I arrived and saw the beautiful setting Rosie had created, I knew it would be a special day!

Rosie is the co-founder of Wild Ivy Retreats, a sanctuary dedicated to fostering community and nurturing a deeper sense of self through meaningful connections with nature. Their retreats and events offer guided meditations, foraging experiences, nourishing food, creative workshops, and a strong sense of community. Rosie is passionate about helping people find stillness and create space for their minds to rest, guiding them on a journey to inner peace and rejuvenation.

I loved hearing more about Rosie’s story, how she came to create Wild Ivy Retreats, and what this work means to her. I hope you enjoy listening too, and it inspires you to not only get out in nature but also to notice what lights you up and consider how you can follow your own passions too.

I met Janey through our mutual friends, and I have enjoyed getting to know her and learn about her eclectic career, which now has a big focus on alcohol-free living. Janey is so passionate about this topic, especially because she approaches it from the perspective of “grey area drinking”, that I think many of us can relate to.

Janey Lee Grace is a life coach trained in NLP, EFT, Matrix and Family Constellations therapy, plus sobriety and health coaching. She runs a community called The Sober Club and offers 1-1 coaching and group sessions. Formerly she was a broadcaster best known as a co-host on Steve Wright in the Afternoon on BBC Radio 2. She is the author of five books on holistic living including two number-one Amazon best sellers. Janey has a BA Hons degree in Performance Arts, was a backing singer with WHAM! and had a Top Ten hit with Cola Boy in 1991.

EP 086: Model Strangers: A Creative Project for Human Connection with Christopher Ward

Model Strangers is one of my favourite accounts to follow on Instagram. The videos are beautiful snippets of human life and interaction, and the community that it has created is so positive and heartwarming. Knowing that this was one person’s project, which seemed like a pursuit of their purpose, I knew that I had to invite Chris to the podcast. I was delighted when he accepted my invitation and I really enjoyed this ‘behind the scenes’ conversation where we talk about how and why Model Strangers got started and learn more about this amazing project which has a rapidly growing following.

Christopher Ward was born in South Africa and now lives in Northern Ireland. He’s a wedding videographer and photographer who decided just last year to try something different. He’d been feeling creatively unfulfilled for a long time and wanted to explore a new project that would showcase humanity. The result is Model Strangers, now with over 700k followers on Instagram.
